The AIA Tucson Society has regularly organized award-winning outreach projects. Starting in 2004, the Society won the first AIA Local Society Incentive Grant to build a replica of a Greek kiln. In recent years, the Tucson Society won AIA outreach grants for the Roman Spectacle and the Roman Snacktackle! Please stay tuned for future outreach projects and feel free to join us!
Kiln Project
In 2004, as the first recipient of the AIA Local Society Incentive Grant, the AIA Tucson chapter set out to build a kiln in the ancient Greek form and use it for both educational purposes and community outreach. This project shifted the traditional focus of experimental archaeology from the recreation of ancient Greek pottery shapes and surface decoration to the actual construction of a kiln and the process of firing pottery. Today, the kiln project gives university students, local schools, and community members a chance to participate in recreating this important historical process. Learn More

Since 2011, in a grassy arena on the University of Arizona campus, the Tucson Society of the AIA—a good organization whose members love the people—presented our first ever Roman gladiatorial spectacle of magnificent proportions! Learn More

International Archeology Day
International Archaeology Day is a celebration of archaeology and the thrill of discovery. Every October the AIA and archaeological organizations across the United States, Canada, and abroad present archaeological programs and activities for people of all ages and interests.
